NIGERIAN ELDER STATESMAN CHIEF CC ONOH SPEAKS!

The father of Enugu State and the man who led the effort to make that state a reality has spoken! Elder statesman and former Governor of old Anambra State, Chief (Dr) Christian Chukwuma Onoh, Aninefungwu 1 and Okaa Omee of Ngwo, Enugu State blamed the numerous problems facing Nigeria today on an existing structural imbalance in her 48 years of existence.

Chief CC Onoh who was speaking on the occasion of Nigeria's 48th Independence anniversary remarked that not only did the British unwillingly grant Nigeria Independence in 1960, it went on to rig the 1962 election to produce a Northerner as Prime Minister, whereas the Sardauna of Sokoto Ahmadu Bello, leader of the North then, never wanted one Nigeria!

The Sardauna's position, the 80 year Octogenarian said, was contrary to the vision of one Nigeria promoted by other founding fathers, including Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo, of blessed memories. Chief CC Onoh, who blamed the structural imbalance in Nigeria on Northern domination of power, spoke to a correspondent at his country home in Ngwo, Enugu State, Nigeria.

Chief CC Onoh recalled that, "three parties emerged then - namely the west's party Action Group (AG) led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo with slogan of 'More Abundant', the north's party Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) led by Sardauna of Sokoto Ahmadu Bello with slogan of 'One North, One People, One Destiny' and the east's party National Council for Nigeria and Cameroons (NCNC) led by Dr Nnamdi Azikwe, later National Council for Nigerian Citizens) with the slogan OF 'One Nigeria'.

According to Chief CC Onoh, it is obvious from the northern slogan that the Sardauna never believed in one Nigeria, but in 'One North, One People, One Destiny'. The British was forced to grant Independence to Nigeria and Zik also said that we got Independence on a platter of gold. No sooner we got the Independence in 1960 than trouble started in the North in 1962, and 'Operation wetie' between Awolowo and Akintola that prompted the re-alignment of political parties. Continuing Chief CC Onoh said, we must remember that Sardauna said that if for any reason the British go, the North will continue their uninterrupted conquest to the sea. The British prepared the way for them and they rigged the election. And when you talk about election rigging today, it is the African perfecting what the British taught him. They (British) rigged the election to ensure that the North produced the Prime Minister. They rigged the election because they did not trust Zik and Awolowo. It was as a result of the trouble in the West that got two political incompatibles to unite, Zik, Okpara and Ademola or so. With this, the British were hoping to come back and this led to the 1966 coup. At the heat of the coup, Gowon said that the basis for unity of the country does not exist. Since then, 48 years after, the Igbo have been at the receiving end," Onoh said.

According to Chief CC Onoh, since the murder of Aguiyi-Ironsi, no Igbo man has tasted power, while the military oligarchy from the North that held onto power over the years made sure they favoured their area more than other sections of the country on issues like state and local government creations that formed the basis for revenue allocations. Chief CC Onoh said that before oil was discovered in Nigeria, the North insisted on 50 per cent derivation, all targeted against a section of the country and through the back door, with the creation of local governments by the military and revenue allocation formula, carted away everything.

Continuing Chief CC Onoh said that when oil was discovered in Oloibiri Rivers State, Shell BP and the North conspired to change the horse in the middle of the stream. They slashed the hitherto 50% derivation and introduced a new 33.3 per cent derivation and by the time former military head of state Sani Abacha died, it went down to as little as 1.5 per cent derivation.

On the possibility of the proposed constitution review by the National Assembly to address these issues, he said the legislators lack the credibility to embark on the exercise, having all emerged through the most fraudulent elections in Nigeria. Chief CC Onoh advocated the use of a plebiscite in producing a new constitution for Nigeria; Chief CC Onoh also described the newly created Niger Delta Ministry as a mere palliative that cannot solve the problems of the region.

NIGERIA AT 48:- ANYTHING WORTH CELEBRATING?

Today October 1st 2008 marks the forty eight anniversary of Nigeria's Independence from Britain. At forty-eight years, one would like to ask, is there anything really worthy of celebration by Nigerians? To which Icheoku says in response, except the plague of useless and unpatriotic "leaders" who have never inspired anyone nor endeavored to inscribe their names in the marble of good government. A crop of leadership who has repeatedly and respectively looted the country dry and helped in driving it further aground. These people are the albatross suffocating and choking Nigeria since her coming into being in 1960. From October 1st 1960 till date, Nigeria has never had a leader strictly so called!

On the occasion of this 48th Independence anniversary celebration, Icheoku calls on all Nigerians to spend their day, meditating on how best a good responsible government can be established and enthroned in Nigeria - and this by extension, means allowing a true leadership to merge through a free and fair elections. Moshood Kasinmawo Olawale Abiola's 1983 election showed that such a people's oriented leadership can evolve once a conducive environment is enabled for it to emerge. But it will not be easy as the cabals enjoying the loots of state will not midwife such!

Like the Orange Revolutions that swept through Eastern Europe few years ago and most recently the Musharraf Must Go Revolution in Pakistan, Nigerians should start seriously considering their version of a revolution - possibly a Green Revolution to demand for a real government of the people, by the people and for the people of Nigeria! A determined non violent mass movement have succeeded in other parts of the world and nothing stops it from succeeding in Nigeria once the people seriously desire it. A true leadership based government is the only thing that will turn around the fortunes of Nigeria and then and only then could there be something to truly celebrate on an occasion of her independence anniversary!

Icheoku asks, what is working at the moment? For instance, it is an unofficial state policy of successive Nigerian governments that a dilapidated bridge over River Niger should not be rebuilt because it will benefit the Igbo and one wonders are the Igbo not part of Nigeria or what? Further that Oji River power station should not be revived because it is situated in Igboland and one also wonders out loud, is Igboland in Cameroon or on Mars? If Igboland is no longer needed in Nigeria, let the powers that be let the people go. They did it with Bakassi which they freely gave away to Cameroon, so why not Igboland? As for the supposed Igbo "leaders" in Abuja, what other thing or sign are you waiting to happen before you start to shout on roof-tops that your people are being systematically forced out of Nigeria through blatant marginalization! Your silence is ominous and can only be interpreted one way and one way only - that you have a price and has been bought! Should the Niger Bridge collapse on or before December, how will you explain that to the millions of Igbo people who will be heading home for Christmas that their only means across to their part of the country where they are still truly welcomed, is a non existent boats/ferry services upon the River Niger; knowing fully well that not all of them can afford the prohibitive cost of air travel/flying in Nigeria?

Throughout the rest of the country including the tacitly-excluded Igboland, the condition of roads, water, schools, transportation, energy, economy, security, corruption, health-care and practically all that makes modern life livable are in dire depravity; and this is 48 years after Nigeria's independence from the then Great Britain! It is quite disheartening and this is not for lack of capable can-do heads and hands; no it is as a result of unyielding mediocrity of some self appointed cabals in the body polity of Nigeria who will not tolerate those that have the know-how and real patriotism to move Nigeria forward. How can these same people who have been blooding Nigeria up since her Independence continually be tolerated and enabled to recycle themselves every-time, each time into the power in Nigeria? They have failed the country; because they lack the know-how and are not patriotic enough to desire a better Nigeria. But why should they since they would rather jet out to countries in Europe or the Middle East or South Africa at the slightest feel of malaria or a joint dislocation or ordinary dialysis instead of developing medical facilities in Nigeria? They have the means and capacity, partly due to the looting they have done on the treasury over the years but do they care about the millions of other less opportune Nigerians who do not even have a passport because they cannot afford them? The only solution that makes sense is that these bunch of marauders must be showed the exit before Nigeria can wake up from its stupor and state of malaise. One popular aphorism says that doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result is the best definition of lunacy.

Nigeria cannot achieve greatness with the present bunch of criminal mediocre striding her since 1960. They do not know; they do not know that they do not know and that makes them a bunch of fools. Nigeria needs a total and complete rebirth for it to be able to lift itself up from a near abject want of everything to a place where people can thrive! Nigeria must move forward and the only means of bringing about this desired goal is a total overhaul of the polity. That is what a truly independent country does and until then, Icheoku says, today is just another October 1st!

VOTE REASONABLY THIS NOVEMBER 4TH, 2008!

In case you have forgotten the hell-hole in which George Walker Bush and his wrecking crew drove this great country into; can you remember what the price of gas was before the advent of these oilmen into the White-house. Imagine the great harm a carelessly given eight long years mandate could cause a great country? Icheoku is not kidding; this is serious times that calls for rationality! Please America throw away your partisan hat and instead put on your reasonable hat that you may denounce the evil of these last eight years by voting right using your head. Madam Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright says that Sarah Palin is an ominous sign of the calamitous abyss facing America should the unthinkable happen and the Senator John McCain's camp is "elected" this November 4th, 2008! She warns America to be smart and avert this looming disaster waiting to happen. If you think George Walker Bush was a mistake, the John McCain ticket with Sarah 'air-head' Palin will be a bombshell!

Madeleine Albright, who became the first female U.S. Secretary of State and highest ranking woman in government in 1997 during President Bill Clinton's government says she is frightened by the possibility that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Republican John McCain's running mate, could assume the presidency. According to her, the thought alone of that possiblity sends cold shiver down her spine. She is simply speaking, scared stiff at that thought that Sarah Palin might become president of this country.

Without hesitating, Madam Secretary answered "Yes. Yes." to a question whether she is scared by the prospect of Palin being a heartbeat away. According to her, "having served two presidents, I think the job of the president is the most difficult job in the world. What you need in a vice president - and I've felt this for a long time because I've watched [vice president Walter] Mondale and [vice president] Al Gore - is that you need a partner. The job is huge and needs somebody not only for the heartbeat part but in the day-to-day governance. Gore went a step further of being almost like a prime minister ... taking away the underbrush of issues to do with how two countries relate to each other. So you need somebody that actually knows what they are doing. I see that with the Obama-Joe Biden relationship. I certainly don't see it in the McCain-Palin relationship." Icheoku says kudos Madam Secretary for stepping up to add your weighty voice to this spectacle of Sarah Palin's anti progressive ideas!

THIS SURE LOOKS GOOD!

A TURNING POINT FOR AMERICA!

Icheoku says that as things stands now, the only thing standing between Senator Barack Obama and the White-house will be racism. America has a great opportunity to show the entire world that it has come a long way from its racist bigoted past and that in the present day America, a person of color could occupy the White-house. It should be a complete 180 degree turn and that is exactly what the world and America so desperately yearn for.

Everything is going haywire both here at home and world-wide, and this is not the time to gamble with all that is wrong in this country at the present time. The economy is sputtering; the polity is anxious, the world is apprehensive and tension is mounting everywhere in the land. Senator John McCain is economics-challenged and his Alaskan beauty queen is not bringing anything to assist this dinosaur with his deficiency in economics. Sarah Palin is all beauty and no brains and her political astuteness is equally very suspect. What can this beauty queen extremist bring to the restive polity when her religious views are so archaic and fundamentalist that the Taliban will be wondering why America bothered them in the first place. Sarah Palin is against all things modern and would rather a woman give birth to a child conceived by incest, rape and criminality than to medically terminate it. Sarah Palin kills animals and it is very ironic that such a pretty face is so much in love with blood. What type of bimbo is this Sarah Palin? Only Senator John McCain can answer that as he alone knows what it is about this beauty queen he finds "suitable" for the oval office.

Senator John McCain's sing song about bombing everybody that disagrees with America is not the type of mindset America needs now in view of the rat-hole where George Bush dug America into these past eight years. America needs and deserves a fresh start and only Senator Barack Obama represents such a breath of fresh air.

Furthermore Senator John McCain is also damn too old and early stages of Alzheimer's apparently is being manifested with his forgetfulness and frequent outbursts ; so how can one trust him with making tough decisions affecting the lives of millions world-wide. Additionally Senator John McCain has adamantly refused to release his medical records so who knows if he is still suffering from left-over prisoner of war blues syndrome?

America do right and tell the world that we have since moved on from our sordid past. Let us come together and vote reasonably with our heads instead of all these prejudiced ideological divides. Senator Barack Obama is what we need at the present cross-roads in our history and anything short of his presidency will push us further underground. Icheoku says, No Way! No How! No McCain! UMARU YAR'ADUA: - HOW LONG ARE HIS DAYS?

Nigeria's de-facto "president" is gravely ill! Umaru Yar'Adua is dying! Yar'Adua is dying of an undisclosed illness which has virtually taken the life out of him. Umaru is but a living ghost - a deadman walking! How much longer he will walk this earth is anybody's guess and your guess is as good as mine - not much longer barring a divine miracle! His state of health does not look good!

Anybody in doubt of how serious the illness afflicting this weakling from Katsina State is; a very sick-man imposed on Nigeria by Babalawo Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo as their "president", should take a good look at this newly obtained 'very recent' picture of the mallam. What do you see but a man starring aimlessly into a blank, black and bleak future, much of which he does not have left. Look at his skin discoloration! Look at his body's scarred pigmentation. Look at his sunken eyes. Icheoku says, the general verdict is that Umaru Yar'Adua is gravely ill! But why he has not resigned to concentrate on the fight for his dear life is quite astonishing or must he be carried out in a gurney?

This man who was a conspirator to the criminal perfidy of Babalawo Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo-led hijacking of the Nigeria polity does not necessarily evoke much sympathy from many Nigerians. Umaru Yar'Adua is seen as a collaborator in the thwarting of the peoples' wish for a true and lasting democracy. Umaru Yar'Adua made his body available for the cabals to use to truncate democracy and hence is as guilty as Olusegun Obasanjo and his other cohorts for turning democracy as we know it on its head! Icheoku says, were he honorable, he would have conducted a fresh election, knowing the fraudulent manner he was smuggled unto Nigerians as their illegitimate president. Why did he not disqualify himself or annul the "selection" which imposed him willy-nilly on Nigerians and instead conduct a fresh election? Was he not the one who gave Bakassi away, yet he is enjoying an office which he did not merit nor won! Was he not the one who cancelled Ajaokuta Steel contracts yet he cannot find merit in cancelling his own "selection" which every person in the world condemned as a charade. Anyway may be, before too long there will be a divine intervention that Nigeria may finally be rescued from these cabals who have held her hostage since her independence 48years ago!

Umaru Yaradua, Icheoku calls on you to resign your office today and face your health situation which is rapidly deteriorating (pictures do not tell lies) - nothing should be more important to you than your health! Should you pass on while still yoked to your office, you will not continue to remain president so why not cut your losses and leave now that you may still have a fighting chnace? You still have a life to fight with or are you of a gambler's mentality of all or nothing? Either way it does not look good Umaru!

1. Couple goes out with a bang!

A South African couple were killed Tuesday September 23, 2008 while having sex on a railway track in Mpualanga Provence, ignoring shouts from the train's engineer, who saw them too late to stop.

This was the same reason that made the Wall Street firms to fail in the first place because they were being Father-Christmas with easy credits. Now, if that was the mistake of the past that led us to where we are now, why then try to repeat it. Icheoku says this is what happens when irrational men are put in charge of a humongous enterprise like the United States of America's economy. Bush doesn't get it and so does John McCain. SENATOR JOHN McCAIN:- SIMPLY TOO OLD TO MULTI-TASK!

Grandpa Senator John McCain has done it again. He abruptly suspended his campaign and is now threatening to boycott the scheduled presidential debate in the guise of being proactive with finding solution to the economic earthquake rocking the country. But one school of thought has it that the Grand-daddy of presidential election is just trying to chicken out of a debate he knows he will lose. Also it may be an attempted odd-ball to jerk back to life his unravelling lack-lustre campaign. This ruse might also be a military tactic deployed by this former naval aviator to out-fox and out-maneuver the Barack Obama's campaign. Whatever be the motive Icheoku is happy that this desperation has been effectively checked and now urges Grandpa John McCain to increase his medication to enable him "do two things at a time". It is called MULTI-TASKING!

If the bones of his body are rattling from old age, then Senator John McCain should be reasonable and do the right thing - concede the election! It is no use pushing a 70 plus tired old body beyond its fragile capabilities. Even machines of war have their life-span and anyone looking at the heavily medicated wrinkly Senator John McCain will only agree that it is about time he rested this body which has served him very well, these past three and half decades plus! A USA BASED NIGERIAN ARMED ROBBERY/MURDER SUSPECT!

A Nigerian, Ijeoma Ogbuagu has been arrested in San Francisco California for fatally shooting one Royshawn Holden during a botched robbery operation. Ijeoma Ogbuagu, 20, was arrested without incident in Burlingame (a suburb of San Francisco) at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, 23rd 2008; according to police. Ijeoma was arraigned for murder in San Francisco Superior court on Thursday September 25th 2008.

Ijeoma's accomplice Julius Hughes 24, has been declared wanted by the San Francisco Police in connection with the fatal shooting; which took place at about 9:30 p.m. outside the Mr. Nice Guy Marijuana Dispensary Club at the corner of Valencia Street and Duboce Avenue in the Mission District of the city. The victim died at San Francisco General Hospital from his multiple gun-shot wounds.

MEDIOCRITY OR MERITOCRACY - AMERICA WHO WILL YOU HIRE?

As an employer recruiting a staffer for that opening in your firm, after perusing these resumes who would you rather hire to run your company? A mediocre candidate who hardly crossed the finish line or some Ace scholars who have been certified as highly trained and qualified for the positions? Now meet candidate Barack Obama and John McCain who are now applying to you to hire them for the soon to be open position in the presidency of America of which you are a director. Also both candidates have brought along their deputies who will assist them do the prospective job.

Now let us review both candidates resume` for the job of the presidency which they are applying for now. Starting with the Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama and his running mate Senator Joe Biden and then Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin!

Candidate Barack Obama: - Barack Obama attended two years of college at Occidental College los Angeles, Califronia. Then he went to Columbia University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science with a specialization in International Relations. He also went to Harvard Law School where he obtained Juris Doctor (J.D.) in Law with Magna Cum Laude!

Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden: - Barack Obama's running mate Senator Joe Biden attended University of Delaware where he obtained double Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) degree in History and Political Science. Joe Biden later proceeded to Syracuse University College of Law where he obtained Juris Doctor (J.D.) in Law!

Candidate John McCain: - John McCain attended United States Naval Academy and ranked 894 out of 899 in his class. In other words Senator John McCain was only better than five (5) people in a class of eight hundred and ninety-nine (899) students. That makes Senator John McCain not even a bright bulb in the chandlier.

Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin: - John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin spent one (1) semester at Hawaii Pacific University; then two semesters (2) at North Idaho College doing general studies; she further spent another two (2) semesters at University of Idaho studying journalism; then transferred to Matanuska-Susitna College where she spent one (1) more semester before returning back to University of Idaho where she completed three semesters to finally obtain a Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) in Journalism.

To summarize, whereas Barack Obama and Joe Biden have advanced degrees in Law (J.D.) with undergraduate studies in political science, effectively groomed for the office for which they seek; the reverse is the case with John McCain and Sarah Palin. Senator John McCain barely made it through his naval class coming out bottom 6 in a class of 899; his running mate Sarah Palin went through four schools before she could obtain a bachelors degree in Journalism. Whether she was cutting classes or being expelled or brain-dead Icheoku is yet to confirm but suffice it to reiterate a popular aphorism that "when you are that pretty who needs a head"

America this is yet another call of duty for you to once agin decide who will preside over the affairs of this great nation. America will you get it right or make another grave mistake that we make these past eight years seem like eldorado? America do you want someone well prepared and equipped for the job or will you settle for yet another half baked, academically challenged individuals. Before you make that leap of faith, please introspect on these past eight years of George Walker Bush administration and ask yourself why was it a failure? Icheoku says "it failed because George Bush like John McCain is an academically challenged person who also came amongst the bottom of his class and hence lacks the capacity to think, analyse and absorb complex issues of state.

Now that you have been let in on the prowess or potentials of both candidates, the decision is yours to make! As a employer which of these resumes` will draw your attention and who would you rather hire trusting that he can deliver? Icheoku says that Senator Barack Obama and Senator Joe Biden are better prepared and more qualified for this very job of the land and should therefore be hired to do the said job. Senator Barack Obama and Senator Joe Bide will be better president and vice president of this country - the United States of America. As for John McCain and Sarah Palin, these stragglers are mediocre, ill-equipped for the challenges of the office and therefore should be rejected.

If you are satisfied with George Bush's performance then blindly follow McCain. If you will like more of the same, then McCain is your candidate. Peradventure you are a discerning voter who makes use of his/her head instead, so vote wisely for the only one candidate who should receive your vote this election cycle - Senator Barack Obama. Barack Obama is the real deal in this election and he will deliver. His change is the change we can believe in and he gives us hope on a new beginning! There is no single reason to vote for John McCain other than his being a war hero which we have since acknowledged. The presidency of the United States of America demands more than just gun-powder and cannons; it demands some modicum of intelligence and knowledge. It also demands cool-breeze temperament which John McCain also lacks. It also demands rational actions to which Icheoku says that John McCain's notorious rashness and jumpiness is a widely held knowledge. Look at how he hastily fell for the Alaskans beauty queen wanna-be Sarah Palin without vetting her properly! America please do not back the wrong horse in this election - DO NOT VOTE for Senator John McCain! He cannot meet the challenges of the present times. Icheoku once again affirms Senator Hillary Clinton's war cry: - No Way! No How! No McCain! No Palin!

YINKA CRIAG OF NIGERIA IS GONE!

For those Nigerians who are old enough to remember Mr. Yinka Criag of Nigeria Television Authority Lagos, Yinka is no more! Yinka Craig died of cancer of the blood today at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, United States of America. Yinka was just 60 years!

Icheoku says that Yinka Craig has completed his circle of life's journey and unto the world beyond he has transited. May Yinka forever live in the memory of those who loved him most, especially his family and those friends who knew him very well.
