DANJUMA, A WRONG CHOICE!
Icheoku denounces the choice of Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma as chairman of the newly constituted presidential advisory board, as well as some of its membership - those recycled tired old 'hags'? The board composition is not forward-looking but merely reinforces the age-long statusquo which has left Nigeria despondent and stagnated all these years, since her independence in 1960. It also does not reflect the current mood in the country which yearns for a new direction - to dispense with the old guards and make way for new ones, in order to shake Nigeria out of its lingering, suffocating and life-threatening dystopia. TY has been around the block and for too long, starting from 1966 when he killed Nigeria's first military head of state General Aguiyi Ironsi and continuing through the many years of his 70 years plus life, including just few weeks ago when he confessed to how he and the late midget of Kano, Sani Abacha, stole a $1 billion dollars oil-well belonging to the people of Niger Delta Rivers State? Now he is being re-positioned once again to continue his looting of the Nigeria state and unfortunately, by a man who should know better? When shall this 'merit' by gerontocracy ever end in Nigeria? Is there any hope for the millions of young and restless, ready-to-go Nigerian young? Will these well-traveled, well educated and blessed with abundance of fresh and better ideas on how to move Nigeria forward ever get the chance to prove their mettle? The composition of this board and Danjuma's headship thereof is very lamentable; and it is about time Nigerian politicians, especially Goodluck's PDP, know that non-partisans as well as the opposition can be appointed to offices too! Moreso retired military people, unlike other professionals in Nigeria, are unnecessarily placed on too high a pedestal which they sometimes do not always deserve or have earned; and this special treatment fuels the arrogance with which they approach everything, including their feeling of entitlement. With this unending and systematic entrenchment of men and women who should have idly, lived-out their usefulness, Icheoku asks, when will a Nigerian Barack Obama ever rise in that country? This appointment is a very wrong move in the first baby-step of the Acting President Jonathan Goodluck, the much over-hyped and touted stature of TY not withstanding! Not in our name, Jonathan!
