SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE'S OSCAR NIGHT!
With eight (8) Oscars in one night, Slumdog Millionaire ruled the 81st annual Academy Awards in Hollywood, California, USA. It came in with ten nominations, winning eight of them including adapted screenplay, cinematography, editing, music (score and song), best director, best adapted screenplay, sound mixing and film editing. A story of hope amidst despondency in the squalor of Mumbai India, Slumdog Millionaire is about a poverty-raised tea-boy Jamal, an orphan, who artfully dodges a criminal gang that mutilates children to make them more pitiable beggars. Jamal witnesses his mother's violent death, endures police torture and struggles with betrayal by his brother, while single-mindedly hoping to reunite with the lost love of his childhood. Fate rewards Jamal, whose story unfolds through flashbacks as he recalls how he came to know the answers that made him a champion on India's version of America's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Slumdog Millionaire.
The film, an adaptation of Vikas Swarip's novel Q&A was written by Simon Beaufoy. It is about optimism and the power of hope; the two things one really needs to have in this world. It is said that if you have those two things, you have everything. Icheoku says, congratulations to the team of Slumdog Millionaire, for the feat of February 22, 2009!
