THE NATIONWIDE STUDENTS MARCH: ANY ANSWER TO GUN VIOLENCE IN AMERICA?
ICHEOKU says the sponsored nationwide students march against gun violence has come and gone; but the question remains, is it going to be the magic silver bullet that finally kills gun violence in America. Will their marching be the march that ended all such marching against school shootings in America? ICHEOKU says the jury is still out on this pertinent question; but the real issue remains what is so special about the particular shooting in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Parkland Florida that it is now being treated as the mother of all school shootings in America?
What is so special about the Florida High School that the shooting there has generated such a flurry of anti gun activities throughout the land, and has once again forcefully trust the issue of school shootings into the national limelight. Why Majory High; because before it were other 462 school shootings and after it, has been another 4 more school shootings; since the records started being kept with the first school shooting in Greencastle Pennsylvania in July 26, 1764 and the last one to date being at Great Mills Maryland shooting of March 20, 2018. ICHEOKU is certain that following the nationwide anti guns march of March 24, 2018 that there will still probably be more school shootings on our future; and you wonder what was gained by the thousands of man-hours spent, planning, coordinating and in fact carrying out the nationwide protest.
Within the recent past, Columbine High of April 20, 1999 happened, there was no nationwide outrage; Virginia Tech of April 16, 2009 happened and there was no nationwide protest; Sandy Hook Elementary School which saw kindergartners massacred happened and the conscience of the nation was not stirred enough into a nationwide protest. So, why did Majorie Stoneman Douglas High School stir such much dust over the land about school shootings. Hopefully, it will be the rude awakening needed to do something sensible towards guarding or at least curtailing school shootings in America. But whether it will finally resolve it is anybody's guess and provided everything does not fade after few days, the effort would have been well made.
