"I didn't give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough. ... So I took him to a white lawyer. ... I figured if I would take him to one of them, his own kind would take care of him." - Shirley Sherrod, former director at USDA. Icheoku agrees that this comment is racist and further avers that racism is an ongoing thing in America with practically everyone guilty of the sin. It is only when stumbles and misspeaks of this kind surfaces that people begin to pretend everything has been honky dory prior. Who is not a racist including you, me and everyone who would rather take care of one of his/her kind first before reaching out to the 'others'. Our Lord Jesus Christ foresaw this when he said "all have sinned and fallen short of glory' and 'he who is without sin should throw the first stone'.The solution is that we should be talking more about our differences towards finding more galvanizing common grounds for our lasting cohesion instead of the existing 'don't ask, don't tell' disposition. To pretend otherwise that there is no racism in America is akin to pretending that President Barack Hussein Obama is white. Shirley Sherrod was caught off guard and she got what she deserved by being fired. As a public official, she should have known better on how to play the 'tag-along to get-along' silent game. The racial connotation here includes 'not doing alI she could have done' and 'taking him to one of his own kind'. Her futile explanation of 'in context' falls flat; and that not withstanding, she should have simply known better.
