Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware is it! He is Barack Obama's vice presidential candidate nominee and we are satisfied. A combination of these two very erudite Senators means that the campaign is finally ready as the necessary gravitas and foreign relations experience has been supplied; also the fear of the majority white men has been assuaged, hence nothing else can reasonably be asked of this campaign. The American people should be eternally grateful to Old Europe for having spiked the Bush-McCain plan to bring Georgia into NATO. Had Georgia been in NATO when Mikheil Saakashvili invaded South Ossetia, we would be eyeball to eyeball with Russia, facing war in the Caucasus, where Moscow's superiority is as great as U.S. superiority in the Caribbean during the Cuban missile crisis. If the Russia-Georgia war proves nothing else, it is the insanity of giving erratic hotheads in volatile nations the power to drag the United States into war.

From Harry Truman to Ronald Reagan, as Defense Secretary Robert Gates said, U.S. presidents have sought to avoid shooting wars with Russia, even when the Bear was at its most beastly. Truman refused to use force to break Stalin's Berlin blockade. Ike refused to intervene when the Butcher of Budapest drowned the Hungarian Revolution in blood. LBJ sat impotent as Leonid Brezhnev's tanks crushed the Prague Spring. Jimmy Carter's response to Brezhnev's invasion of Afghanistan was to boycott the Moscow Olympics. When Brezhnev ordered his Warsaw satraps to crush Solidarity and shot down a South Korean airliner killing scores of U.S. citizens, including a congressman, Reagan did — nothing. These presidents were not cowards. They simply would not go to war when no vital U.S. interest was at risk to justify a war. Yet, had George W. Bush prevailed and were Georgia in NATO, U.S. Marines could be fighting Russian troops over whose flag should fly over a province of 70,000 South Ossetians who prefer Russians to Georgians.

The arrogant folly of the architects of U.S. post-Cold War policy is today on display. By bringing three ex-Soviet republics into NATO, we have moved the U.S. red line for war from the Elbe almost to within artillery range of the old Leningrad. Should America admit Ukraine into NATO, Yalta, vacation resort of the czars, will be a NATO port and Sevastopol, traditional home of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, will become a naval base for the U.S. Sixth Fleet. This is altogether a bridge too far. And can we not understand how a Russian patriot like Vladimir Putin would be incensed by this U.S. encirclement after Russia shed its empire and sought our friendship? How would Andy Jackson have reacted to such crowding by the British Empire?

As of 1991, the oil of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan belonged to Moscow. Can we not understand why Putin would smolder as avaricious Yankees built pipelines to siphon the oil and gas of the Caspian Basin through breakaway Georgia to the West? For a dozen years, Putin & Co. watched as U.S. agents helped to dump over regimes in Ukraine and Georgia that were friendly to Moscow. If Cold War II is coming, who started it, if not us? The swift and decisive action of Putin's army in running the Georgian forces out of South Ossetia in 24 hours after Saakashvili began his barrage and invasion suggests Putin knew exactly what Saakashvili was up to and dropped the hammer on him.

What did we know? Did we know Georgia was about to walk into Putin's trap? Did we not see the Russians lying in wait north of the border? Did we give Saakashvili a green light? Joe Biden ought to be conducting public hearings on who caused this U.S. humiliation. The war in Georgia has exposed the dangerous over-extension of U.S. power. There is no way America can fight a war with Russia in the Caucasus with our army tied down in Afghanistan and Iraq. Nor should we. Hence, it is demented to be offering, as John McCain and Barack Obama are, NATO membership to Tbilisi.

The United States must decide whether it wants a partner in a flawed Russia or a second Cold War. For if we want another Cold War, we are, by cutting Russia out of the oil of the Caspian and pushing NATO into her face, going about it exactly the right way. Vladimir Putin is no Stalin. He is a nationalist determined, as ruler of a proud and powerful country, to assert his nation's primacy in its own sphere, just as U.S. presidents from James Monroe to Bush have done on our side of the Atlantic.

A resurgent Russia is no threat to any vital interests of the United States. It is a threat to an American Empire that presumes some God-given right to plant U.S. military power in the backyard or on the front porch of Mother Russia. Who rules Abkhazia and South Ossetia is none of our business. And after this madcap adventure of Saakashvili, why not let the people of these provinces decide their own future in plebiscites conducted by the United Nations or the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe?
As for Saakashvili, he's probably toast in Tbilisi after this stunt. Let the neocons find him an endowed chair at the American Enterprise Institute".

STEPHANIE TUBBS JONES IS GONE!

Remember her on CNN fighting ferociously for Hilary Rodham Clinton's nomination during the last Democratic party's presidential primaries that eventually produced Barack Obama as the party's nominee! An avid Hilary Clinton supporter is no more, like all mortals, gone forever! United States of America House of Representative member, Stephanie Tubbs Jones was everywhere on the grounds of Ohio State, her district 11, talk-shows, TV etc campaigning for Hilary Clinton! According to Stephanie, Hilary should be the preferred choice for the Democratic Party. Her stance was surprisingly strange to many African Americans since she is black and race-loyalty ordinarily would have suggested she supported Barack Obama.

Stephanie died Wednesday August 20th, 2008 of aneurysm induced brain hemorrhage at Huron Hospital in East Cleveland, a facility owned and operated by the world famous Cleveland Clinics. Stephanie suffered the hemorrhage while driving her car in Cleveland Heights on Tuesday night preceding her Wednesday's death. Stephanie was just 58 years old!

Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones was variously described as very feisty in anything she believes in; unwavering and indefatigable; poured her heart and soul into whatever she believes; outspoken and gregarious lawmaker and a fiery speaker who could inspire crowds at political rallies! Before running and winning her United States House of Representatives seat as Congress-woman representing 11th district, Ohio, Stephanie Tubbs Jones had served as a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge and prosecutor.

AS ZAMBIA MOURNS!

President Levy Mwanawasa who died at Percy Military Hospital, Paris, France from complications of a stroke he suffered on June 29th, 2008 while attending the 11th Session of the African Union Heads of State and Government Summit in Egypt. Levy Mwanawasa was 59 years old.

Levy prior to this fatal stroke, suffered a minor stroke in April 2006, four months before he won a reelection, which term he was serving as president before his death. Also as a vice-president in the 1990s he was also involved in a near-fatal road accident.

President Levy Mwanawasa was described variously as a champion of democracy whose death was a great loss for the African continent and a great leader loved by his people because he did great things.

Levy Mwanawasa was born in Mufulira, Zambia, on 3 September 1948, second child in a family of 10. He was married and had six children. He was a practising lawyer since 1973 until 1982 when he was appointed by former president, Kenneth Kaunda, as the Solicitor General of Zambia. That same year he was appointed vice president of Zambia by then President Frederick Chiluba; a position which he resigned in 1994 in protest of gross abuse of office and corruption by some government officials. In December 2001 after his predecessor retired from power in what became the country's fourth multi-party elections since independence from Britain in 1964, Levy Mwanawasa was elected first term President of Zambia. Mwanawasa declared a zero tolerance on corruption and insisted on cautious expenditure of public resources. But his critics accused him of persecuting his political rivals under the guise of fighting corruption.

To the family of Levy Mwanawasa and his people of Zambia, Icheoku says may you treasure his memory through the legacy he left behind. To die is to live in the heart of those who loves you! Adieu President Levy Mwanawasa, rest in peace.

At the Beijing 2008 Olympics please meet and greet outstanding champions, Michael Phelps of the United States of America and Usain Bolt of Jamaica!

Michael Phelps 'great-white' like performances was magical and he came up tops with eight (8) Olympic gold medals to show for these efforts. Icheoku says congratulations for a job well done! All the trainings eventually paid off and big!

Usain Bolt lived up to his name and like a 'lighting-bolt' zapped the 100 meters race. Icheoku says congratulations to this son of Jah, Yaman! With a 9.68 seconds Olympic record set in the men's 100 meters race, Usain Bolt needs no additional introduction.

Icheoku singled out these two guys for a particular mention because 8 gold medals and a 9.68 seconds 100 meters Olympic record are both stellar and groundbreaking!

For all other winners and participants alike, Icheoku says congratulations for winning and participating in the XXIV Olympiad. It is a friendship sports and participation is equally very important, although winning does not hurt! Once again, CONGRATULATIONS!

JENNIFER ANISTON, JINXED?

Is it life's cruelty or just a case of someone very unlucky in love? Twelve times this decade men have dropped Jennifer Aniston like a hot potato that Icheoku now asks, is she just another woman being used by some horny selfish men but who do not entertain any future with her? Or is she finding or meeting men not meant for her or was she just dating other women's men? Today one of her ex, Brad Pitt is happily procreating with Angelina Jolie and he looks a happy satisfied man. Is it possible that it is all Jenny's fault that she does not know what it takes to keep a man happy and all hers? Does it have something to do with her womanhood, attitude, domesticity, respect, complex or just outright unfortunate 666 mark written on her forehead of love?

Admittedly, Icheoku could care less about Jennifer Aniston's love history as we do not see anything particularly attractive in her but a dozen men within a decade appears to be headed to Guinness book of world records! Jennifer Aniston, Icheoku says to you, do some introspection and soul-searching and seriously ask yourself what it is you do that turn men off! If the rate at which men go through you is not immediately checked, and men continue to hit at you and jump off, a time will come when the world will begin to see you as just a glorified "whore". That time, no prospective mother in-law will willingly accept as a future daughter in-law, a woman whom so many men have gone to bed with? A penny for your thought, adjust your romantic ways and learn the art of humility - men like to be able to protect their women, if you know what I mean. Become or pretend to be a more fragile passionate person in need of a shoulder to lean on and not act as if you are an alpha domineering female, such is a great turn off for most men! If it is your womanhood that is not appetizing enough, may be you should try some karma-sutra clinics for treatment. Soften up a little and make men feel wanted and needed. Become more feminine and sensual and then wear some smile, it does not hurt for one to see your inner soul once in a while. Whatever be the case, our hearts at Icheoku goes out to you and we sympathize with your love-forlorn! EASTERN GOVERNORS AT ASO ROCK!

From left to right of the screen, Abia State's Theodore Orji, Anambra State's Peter Obi, Ebonyi State's Martin Elechi, Enugu State's Sullivan Chime and Imo State's Ikedi Ohakim and they all went to see the president on behalf of Ndi-Igbo! Eastern States governors of the federal republic of Nigeria! Why, one may ask? To touch base with the presidency and remind the occupant therein at Aso rock, that the Igbos of Biafra are still part of Nigeria; as it seems that the president by his actions this far, has forgotten and needs to be reminded that Biafra is still only a dream!

Are the Igbos of Biafra still recognized by the other stake-holders of Nigeria as still an integral part of the clobbered-together Nigeria experiment? May be it takes a visit by all the governors of core Igbo States to amplify that to Umaru Yar"Adua. Why must it then take a visit by the governors of Eastern Nigeria for a sick Umaru Yar'Adua to be reminded of the need for his illegitimate government to address some of the militating issues affecting the people of Eastern Nigeria despite the overwhelming outcry? Why is it that the rest constituents of the geographical tripod do not need to traverse the country to Aso Rock to prostrate before Umaru Yar"Adua in order to secure what they are otherwise entitled to? Why is this humiliation the exclusive reserve of Eastern Nigeria?

It is highly commendable that these governors of Eastern Nigeria are now beginning to speak with one voice, harnessing the power and strength of unity of purpose; we the people at Icheoku pray that they make unison the key to achieving anything meaningful within the Nigeria political context! Icheoku further says that the best thing these political players in Igboland will do at this stage, is to start now, to groom a candidate who they consider viable enough for president come 2016; when it will be the turn of the south east to mount the saddle at Aso Rock and run the affairs of the nation. All the pilgrimage to Aso Rock notwithstanding, if come 2016 there is no credible Igbo candidate for the office of the presidency, then all this junketing would have come to naught.

First the Igbos, led by their governors must be ready to produce the next president of Nigeria; secondly, they must choose a viable candidate to stand for the highest office in the land whom they will present to Nigeria in 2016. Therefore, the single most ricocheting question is, will the Igbo governors be able to pick a candidate for the Igbos as Igbo Presidential candidate in 2016? That and only that should be the single most important preoccupation of the governors of Eastern Nigeria, as Aso Rock visits will not necessarily produce the much desired result since the rest of Nigerians are still waging a cold-war with the Igbo peoples of Biafra.

The rest of Nigeria have been making concerted effort at depriving the Biafran Igbo nation of whatever amenities or infrastructures that may be accruing to them, including their petulant refusal to rebuild the decaying River Niger bridge among other deprivations! Enough should be enough and it is about time the Igbos cease and desist from going cap in hand and on their knees to Aso Rock to beg for what is rightfully theirs; after-all they are at the moment still bona fide Nigerians equally entitled to all benefits accruable to other Nigerians. On this note, Icheoku says to the pilgrim-governors of Eastern Nigeria, please start now to do your preliminary auditioning of Igbo candidates from which a real and fanatical representative of the Igbo interest shall be chosen come 2016. Such a candidate must be an Igbo to the core and whose "Igboness" is not in anyway doubtful and who will effectively represent the Igbo interest and will courageously bring to the Biafran Igbo area, their own overdue dividends of democracy. The Yoruba have developed Lagos and the Hausa/Fulani has developed Abuja Icheoku says Enugu needs to be equally developed as a mega Igbo city. Were Icheoku to suggests possible candidates, they include former senate president Ken Nnamani, former presidential assistant Andy Uba, former Abia State governor Orji Kalu and the current NAFDAC chairwoman Dora Akunyili ( see earlier post "aso rock igbo man" )

Lastly like the blacks in America's fanatical support of Barack Obama's candidacy, will that chosen candidate be a crowd-pleaser of the Igbo nation to motivate them into defending his cause, their cause? Will that candidate be the one? WIll he or she be the one the whole Igbo Baifrans were excitedly waiting for? Will that candidate be the Igbo son or daughter in whom the Igbos are well pleased? To summarise, the one million dollar question remains, when 2016 finally arrives, will you guys, the governors of Biafran Igbo Eastern States of Nigeria be ready with a viable Igbo presidential candidate to present to Nigeria in unison? Icheoku says you better be as the stakes will never be higher!

ANGELINA JOLIE, A ROLE MODEL?

A dear "please get married" letter to Angelina Jolie!

At last someone is braving the question, what manner of woman is Angelina Jolie the paramour of Brad Pitt and mother of the world - she has children from all over the world yet still remains unmarried. From Asia to Africa to America and who knows whether the next two will come from Latin America and Europe or Russia to go full circle of the continent? Angelina Jolie means a lot to so many and the world loves her dearly especially for her philantrophy! Angelina has fed so many hungry, provided motherhood to some orphans and as a United Nations Organisation goodwill ambassador has brought smiles to many sad faces the world over. However, why is nobody asking the tough question, is Angelina Jolie morally right to be having babies outside wedlock and shacking with Brad Pitt while not married to him? Icheoku says, I don't think so!

Angelina Jolie is a class-act, she is beautiful, luscious, caring, slender, tall for a woman, and above all, the best of her assets, she is blessed with a beautiful well sculptured lips. Be that as it may and for the very fact that she wields a lot of influence, Angelina Jolie should not propagating that it is ok to be having children outside wedlock! But rather Angelina should show example of a sustainable family and teaching our youngsters the world over the virtues of waiting until you get married before having babies. It is just not ok to be having children outside wedlock! Angelina, Icheoku says it is not ok and even the Christians condemn it as both fornication and moral -depravity. God has blessed you with a fine, well-accomplished tall and handsome boy in Brad Pitt, so what are you waiting for to formally live in a matrimonial home? It is the right thing to do and all your millions of fan all over, including some of our bloggers do love you dearly but Icheoku insists that your getting married will crown your efforts and give you and your children a firm standing both in the eyes of men and God.

Although rumor mill has it that you are afraid of saying the magical word "I do" and that you see it as a jinx. We at Icheoku will like to point out that marriage is not easy and if not for societal machination, nobody will ever get married to anyone. it is not easy; it requires a total and complete selfless sacrifice done in the name of love. All it takes and needs is love! You are too influential and on so many; so your continuous having children out of wedlock is having a toll on the society wherein teenage girls now see it as being cool, after-all their role model, Angelina Jolie does so. Would you like such to be part of your story or your lasting legacy? Icheoku does not think so! Being phobic about marriage is not a good enough excuse for your situation in life; and you must now get cracking because it is a moral imperative, the right thing to do and finally because your numerous fans are beginning to make snippets. There is also this seven letter word D I V O R C E found in the dictionary and fortunately enough it is still legal in the United States of America allowing you to bolt away should it turn out not to be what you expected. And in California, it is a no-fault state so you can just simply walk away without explaining any damn person why you took your decision to divorce him, should you get to that point. Brad appears to be a nice guy and having gone through Jeniffer Aniston would not readily walk away from your marriage to him; so he will work really very hard to make you a happy woman. Icheoku has thrown the gauntlet for you to speed up the process and get married as your continued having children outside wedlock is impacting your fans negatively, especially the most vulnerable amongst them - teenage girls! Now will you play ball and do something to show the proper and right way to our teenage girls by marrying Brad Pitt, the loyal father of your children of the world?
