GUN VIOLENCE IN AMERICA: FOR WHO THE BELL TOLLS NEXT.

Just five people shy of Sandy Hook elementary school mass shooting incident that claimed 26 lives, the Uvalde Texas Robb elementary school mass shooting at 21 victims, now ranks among the highest grossing gun carnage in America. It is sad that such frequent blood spilling has tragically become part of our culture as a society. May the souls of the killed now rest.

ATIKU'S RETURN TO PDP, A BAD OMEN?

The anticipated return of the Turakin Adamawa back to the fold of his old party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is ominous and portends a great danger both to the party and its faithfuls? His return if it goes through will fracture the party along his followers and those of other competing forces in that unholy alliance called PDP? It signals an impending cataclysmic upheaval that will see the demise of the self-acclaimed largest party in Africa?
His return will unnecessarily over-heat the internal polity and cohesiveness of the ruling party and should have been avoided by the party honchos; assuming they have the wherewithal to so do? But the spineless Ogbulafor led executive are not a match to the Adamawa political bulldozer who could readily deploy his PDM political machinery to get them out of the way? Icheoku says, the planned return of former Vice President Alhaji Abubakar Atiku back to the PDP is sincerely speaking, a thing which that party does not need at this time it is trying to put its house finally in order and with the 2011 elections so close by the corner? Instead of strategising for the 2011 elections and nurturing the remaining last one year of their Yar'Adua-Jonathan administration, the PDP will now be forced to start making rooms available for the accommodation of the Atiku Abubakar led political-harlots returnees.
But does the PDP need these people that much as to allow them back and unconditionally? How about those other dissatisfied members who never took a hike but remained behind to help fix what was broken? Why unnecessarily reward this prodigal son who could not successfully start out on his own with his new Mega Party only to now run back to the crib, called PDP? Afterall the party have proved that they can do without Atiku's band of charlatans, having successfully stolen the elections in 2007 without their help? The fact that Atiku Abubakar left the party when he did and under the circumstances in which he did, went over to the Action Congress, lost his Adamawa State in the 2007 elections, paid that infamous visit to Obasanjo at Otta Farm, tried forming the so called Mega Party but could not bring it to fruition; and suddenly is now making a b-line back to the PDP shows that the man has no real core or moral value; and is not a leader anyone could follow into battle? He should have been discarded for what he is - a political piece of garbage!
Icheoku queries how Atiku plans to explain his political harlotry to his many followers, admirers and party faithfuls; some of who missed out on several juicy opportunities just because they were branded Atiku's people and left in the cold of the Nigerian winner-takes-it-all political bonanza? Now their effort will be rubbished and wasted on the account of the greed of a man, singularly driven by his inordinate ambition to rule Nigeria at all cost and by any means necessary? That Abubakar Atiku is eminently corrupt is also well established, - one of his accomplice, former United States Congressman William Jefferson, is currently doing time in a United States penitentiary for his corrupt practices allegedly in conjunction with Abubakar Atiku of Nigeria? Atiku was also fingered in so many other cases of bribery involving several senior government officials such as the Siemens $12 million dollars and the Halliburton's $180 million dollars bribery; admitted that none of the cases have been conclusively prosecuted? It is also on record that Atiku allegedly brought into America the sum of $40 million dollars from questionable sources during the time he was vice president of Nigeria? But why is Nigeria cursed with abundance of such men with big itchy-fingers as their leaders?
Anyway, as 2011 approaches, it is becoming very obvious that Nigerians will be forced to choose between the devil IBB and the deep sea Atiku; and as always they will choose the lesser of the two evils! Like the biblical Jonah, a whale might be sent to rescue them in the deep sea Atiku but the devil IBB will certainly get them screwed up the more. Icheoku therefore says, if Atiku is being readied as a challenger to Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida in 2011, then some of us might be persuaded to forgive his shortcomings as anybody will be better than the bloody evil-genius and prevent him from returning back to Aso Rock?
In a way, our mantra is, 'anybody but Babangida in 2011' and Atiku might as well be that person? If Atiku is the secret stop Babangida 2011 joker, then on that ground alone, Icheoku is on board and will throw our support his way! Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida is evil and rightly enough he describes himself as the evil-genius. Icheoku calls on every sane Nigerian to work tirelessly to stop "Project IBB 2011". It is a national security matter and for the interest of one Nigeria, it is a call that must be heed by all true Nigerians to deny this murderer what he twice sabotaged and denied others:- first in his 1983's coup against President Shehu Shagari and 1993 his June 12th MKO Abiola election annulment? Still in doubt, ask where is Dele Giwa, Mamman Vasta, Gideon Orkar, Gloria Okon etc and ask yourself if you want to rehabilitate this kind of animal whose hands is dripping with Nigerians blood? So, if Atiku is what it takes to actualize stopping IBB, Icheoku says he is the lesser evil and a more tolerable option, admitted it is not so savory? Icheoku says, if Atiku is the answer to the question of what to do with 'Babangida 2011', then our portal is available to help make Abubakar Atiku's 2011 presidency possible!

  1. Adamawa Govt, PDP Oppose Atiku’s Return Bid
From Mathew Onah in Yola, 04.11.2010
A hitch in the planned re-entry of the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, into the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) developed yesterday as the Adamawa State Government, the state chapter of the party and other stake holders said they have not reconciled with the former vice-president and would not support his return to the party.
The state government in a press release issued by the Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Alhaji Aminu Iyawa, refuted media reports of a purported reconciliation between Atiku and governor Murtala Nyako.

He said the purported grand reception for the return of the former vice president was only the figment of the imagination of Atiku’s political associates.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Adamawa State Government has been drawn to some mischievous statement made by undisclosed associates of the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on the front page of Daily Trust of April 9 to the effect that Gov Nyako and Turaki have reconciled and that the governor was organising a grand reception for the return of the former VP to the PDP

“We wish to categorically deny that the Adamawa State Governor, Admiral Murtala Nyako, is contemplating any such thing.
“We also wish to refute a claim that the duo had a meeting of reconciliation, left alone come to any political agreement or arrangement of whatever kind to the extent of fixing a date on the supposed reception.
“We want to make it abundantly clear that no such meeting ever took place and therefore, advise Nigerians to disregard this self-serving statement that only exposed the desperation of Atiku and his aides in trying to find a credible platform for their political godfather in trying to realise his ambition of becoming the next Aso Rock tenant.

“The former vice-president is at liberty to join whichever party he wishes, including the PDP. He must however, follow the due process by registering at his ward when the register is opened to prospective party members.
“The PDP secretariat in Adamawa State is aware that some people claiming to be associates of Turaki have printed fake registration cards from South Africa and are going round the state deceiving unsuspecting genuine PDP supporters in the name of new registration drive.

“The secretariat has since directed its attorneys to file criminal charges against these miscreants,” the government said.
Senate committee chairman on foreign affairs and a major PDP stakeholder in Adamawa State, Senator Jibril Aminu, had also frowned at the purported come-back of the former vice president.
Similarly, the state chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Umaru Kugama, had told THISDAY in an interview that the state party officials were not aware of the purported re-entry of the former vice-president to the party in the state.
He said he and other executive council members were yet to be briefed by the national secretariat of the party on the issue

  2. In politics, it is often joked, there are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests. Few scenarios better illustrate this than the story of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Widely acknowledged as the leader of the People’s Democratic Movement - the powerful political platform created by the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, and which later formed the core of the People’s Democratic Party - if there had been a contest for “PDP chieftain least likely to defect to another party” Mr. Abubakar would have, all things being equal, been a frontrunner.

First he wanted a third term. And then, when that proved impossible, he sought to impose a candidate. Alas, the name Atiku Abubakar didn’t exist on Obasanjo’s list of potential successors. Obasanjo thus began a vicious campaign of intimidation against his deputy. He sacked Mr. Abubakar’s aides, whittled down his powers considerably, and instituted corruption probes targeted at the Vice President. The EFCC alleged that Mr. Abubakar looted millions of dollars from the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), leading to an indictment by a Federal Government administrative panel of enquiry. Mr. Abubakar dismissed this as a political witch-hunt.

In December 2006, after his ambitions were thwarted by Mr. Obasanjo, Mr. Abubakar defected to the opposition Action Congress, where he easily emerged as the party’s Presidential candidate. There were several calls on Mr. Abubakar to resign, but he didn’t, resulting in the bizarre scenario where a sitting President and his deputy belonged to different parties. Mr Abubakar, it seemed, wanted to have his cake and eat it. The PDP subsequently expelled him, understandably.

Mr. Abubakar thus contested the 2007 Presidential elections, on the platform of the Action Congress, a party which for eight years running had been unsparing in its denouncement of the PDP, on whose platform Mr. Abubakar was Nigeria’s second most powerful man. The irony however appeared lost both on Abubakar and on the Action Congress. After the election, Mr. Abubakar, who came third with about 7 percent of the total votes supposedly cast in that shambolic and widely discredited exercise, rightly described it as “the worst election ever seen.” Today, the news is that, after more than three years in the Action Congress, Mr. Abubakar has decided to return to the PDP. It is election season again, and Mr. Abubakar evidently wants another shot at the presidency. The fact that the PDP presidential nomination is up for grabs, owing to the incapacitation of the incumbent resident, appears to have spurred Mr. Abubakar’s decision to return to the PDP.

But there is also a group of Mr. Abubakar’s associates who are disappointed by the man’s moveable alliances. Usman Bugaje, friend and former adviser to Mr. Abubakar,

lamented the move, describing it as evidence of a deficiency of “political ideology.” We agree with Mr. Bugaje. Mr. Abubakar appears to be a man imprisoned by his ambition to be president. That is not a good sign. It is certainly not an attitude compatible with statesmanship. But then, in today’s Nigeria, principle appears to exist only to be trampled upon. Last year Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State defected from Progressive People’s Alliance, the platform on which he was elected, to the PDP. Resignation was not an option. Senators and House of Representatives members routinely do the same.

Our politics have fallen apart, and our politicians are no more than puppets manipulated by a desperation that masquerades as a desire to serve. Our parties, utterly lacking in ideological roots, are interchangeable; dispensable even. Crass opportunism is the name of the game. Yet another sign of the overwhelming tragedy that has overtaken the country on all fronts. As Mr. Abubakar justifies his way back to the PDP we are forced to wonder what will become of him in the not unlikely event that he does not get the party’s presidential nomination. Should we expect another defection?

  3. 'Atiku Abubakar's planned return to the PDP is evidence of his deficiency of any “political ideology?” - Usman Bugaje, a friend and former adviser to Atiku Abubakar. 234Next.com opined that Mr. Abubakar appears to be a man imprisoned by his selfish desire and blind ambition to be president and at all cost; which is not a good sign nor is it compatible with statesmanship? Icheoku agrees intoto with both opinions and adds, when a person becomes so desperate about something as Atiku in this case, then it must be for some selfish reason which will most likely be detrimental to the general populace! Nigerians therefore must pray and be very watchful over Atiku Abubakar's unbridled ambition as well as the evil genius,Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida'sdeclared intention to run for president! Both recycled men are not what a progressive-looking Nigeria needs at this time, hence they must be stopped cold!
