Icheoku says watching Nigerian films for some time now reveals one thing - they seem to have stalled. Nollywood seems to have ran out of fresh ideas about their stock in trade and/or where they want to take their industry to. It appears they have lost their mojo and their road-map and now bewildered at a fork on the road.
Their stories, acts, scenes, costumes and themes all look like a clone of each other - the same, shallow, stale and sitcom-like. Our conclusion, it is about time Nollywood innovated and start blowing things up if they still want to remain relevant and competitive in the industry; otherwise they will soon peter to a stop like most things Nigerian. Icheoku is a fan and wants Nollywood to thrive and live long; but only wishes they can take their game to the next level and start doing some more serious educated and intelligent stories and not rehashing all these pseudo-dramas they saturate the stores with. Analytical and articulate stories like a terrorist criminal manhunt, Abuja bombing, the making of President Jonathan, IBB military adventurism, the Great Zik, Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello docu-drama etc just to name a few. Just some intelligent movies is what it takes to remain buoyant in the field but not all these boy meet girl sitcom-dramas that they package and repackage each time. Icheoku and the rest of the watching-world, anxiously await Nollywood to take up and deliver on this challenge!
