OJ SIMPSON - THEY FINALLY GOT HIM!

Orephtal James Simpson 61 was found guilty Friday October 3, 2008 of robbing two sports-memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room! Sentencing scheduled for December 5, 2008 could get him life behind bars. The previously famous Hall of Fame Football star was convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and 10 other charges for gathering up five men a year ago and storming into a room at a hotel-casino, where the group seized several game balls, plaques and photos. According to the prosecution, two of his accomplices were armed and one of them alleged that Simpson asked him to bring a gun. The verdict came 13 years to the day Simpson was acquitted in the alleged murdering of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her paramour Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles. According to OJ Simpson's defense attorney, the police officers in this case saw his present arrest as an opportunity to "get" him and avenge his acquittal to which Icheoku concurs.

According to the prosecutors, Simpson's ownership of the memorabilia was irrelevant since it was still a crime to try to take things by force. To this Icheoku rebuts and states that ownership is crucial as that intent to retrieve something belonging to him rather than rob another of his property should defeat the charge of armed robbery. OJ Simpson went into the hotel room not to rob anyone but to retrieve what he reasonably believed was his property. The imperative controlling intent heretofore is that which preceded the entry into the hotel room. The primary question here should have been, did OJ go into the room to retrieve his item or did he set out to rob someone of his thing?

Some other questions implicated in this case include: -the role of the Memorabilia dealer Thomas Riccio, who arranged and secretly recorded the hotel-room confrontation, said he netted $210,000 from the media for the tapes. Also, so soon after the Sept. 13, 2007, incident, one of the alleged victims, sports-memorabilia dealer Alfred Beardsley, was calling news outlets, and the other, Bruce Fromong, spoke of getting "big money" from the case. Finally some investigating Las Vegas police officers were heard in a recording chuckling over Simpson's misfortune and crowing that if Los Angeles couldn't "get" him, they would.

According to defense attorney Yale Galanter, being stupid and being frustrated is not being a criminal and Icheoku also agrees with this learned thought. Continuing, the learned counsel said, this case has taken on a life of its own because of Mr. Simpson's involvement. Every cooperator, every person who had a gun, every person who had an ulterior motive, every person who signed a book deal, every person who got paid money, the police, the district attorney's office, is only interested in one thing: Mr. Simpson." A motion to admit bail pending post judgment proceedings was denied by presiding Judge Jackie Glass who also refused to give the lawyers extended time to file a motion for new trial, which under Nevada law must be filed within seven days. The attorneys said they needed time to submit a voluminous record.

Icheoku says, such a day as this recalls nostalgically the legal prowess of Johnnie Cochran who would have made a mince meat of the prosecution in this case. The evidence does not weightily support the verdict. At least there was no legal armed robbery! Also the defense decision to proceed with the trial before a female judge was a mistake. A female judge no matter her level of impartiality will always have behind her mind the infamous murders of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman for which majority of Americans were very sympathetic. After-all we are all humans before our various vocations and callings so to pretend otherwise will be foolhardy! Lastly, some available evidence of prosecution's motive, especially the spoken words of the investigating police to the effect that if Los Angeles could not get him, they will in Las Vegas; the set-up and all the money made from the incident is highly suggestive of entrapment. Why these issues were not vigorously pursued is not known to Icheoku at the present time and if it means appealing to the highest court in the land, so be it, provided justice was seen to be done!

However OJ Simpson seemed to have chaperoned his present fate. OJ seems to have serious aversion for black people and would rather entrust his fate totally in the hands of white defense counsel, white prosecution, white "victims", white witnesses, all white jurors and a white judge. Who was left there to get your back, OJ? OJ Simpson married a white bimbo who he allegedly murdered but whose death he was found not guilty of. OJ Simpson is currently dating another white blonde. Now he has been convicted of all twelve counts charge and will likely be spending his golden years behind bars. Even his engaging Johnnie Cochran during the Nicole murder trial was an after-thought as OJ had retained Attorney Shapiro prior, who was pushing him to accept a plea deal before Johnnie extricated him from the jaws of the Law. OJ, Icheoku will like to ask you, what do you regret most now? Is it your abandoning your black-folks because of your success or your decision not to learn from history that you are a marked man? Many a reasonable person would have gone into a monastery, so to speak, or disappeared from sight after your ordeals and the out-cry which followed. Even Michael Jackson after his child-molestations acquittal, disappeared to a Middle Eastern Emirate until passion cooled down and since his return has kept low. But that is not for you as you are OJ Simpson - the Juice! Where has your debauchery led you today? Your fate is such a tragic one that you make the ancient Greeks green with envy - they are not alone! However since what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, have we seen the final process in this case or is the defense prepared to pursue justice up to Washington DC? So Now What?
