JOE BIDEN: THE DIFFICULTY IN CHOOSING A VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.

ICHEOKU says he put himself in a bind when he said that he will choose a female vice presidential candidate and can no longer walk away from a commitment in which American women have emotionally  invested. Joe Biden is therefore stuck with that promise and must as a matter of political expediency, choose a woman as his vice presidential candidate running mate. 

American women see it as their best opportunity at attaining the presidency, since in all likelihood, Joe Biden will not serve out his full term because of his frailty and mental depreciation, thereby elevating whoever the Vice President he chooses to fully president. As a result, it will be a fierce scramble, hotly contested, a fight to death, by all the women of the Democratic Party to be honored with the choice, being an assured platform for the presidency. The candidate will be chosen based on a lot of variables which might be very difficult to find in just only one woman. Gender is of course basic since asa matter of fact, all of the candidates must be female, admitted transgenders might want to know why they will not qualify for consideration. 

Then comes color, race, body type, sexual orientation, leaning whether progressive or conservative, abortionist or pro life, feminist or traditional, business background or career politician, married and raising/raised family or single and agitating anti male feminist,  as well other things which aggregated, constitute the entire mosaic of people who ascribe to the membership of the Democratic Party. Simply put, the task facing Joe Biden and his minders with choosing a female vice presidential candidate is gargantuan, as no single candidate among the most visible pool of potential female candidate checks all the necessarily required boxes perfectly. 

The Democratic Party is so tribal that it has become increasingly ungovernable and uncontrollable, as every wing of the party wants their own views on the way forward to dominate and prevail. This begs the question which wing then will be persuaded to concede the choice to the other in order to make Joe Biden's choice an easy one. From which wing of the party will he choose a female vice presidential candidate that will be acceptable to all the other wings of the party and not stir a storm of dust that will envelop the ticket and eventually suffocate it. How will Joe Biden possibly pull this off as the nation stands still in breath taking anxiety as they await to behold who the eventual candidate is. But who shall it be? 

Speaking of horse trading and Joe Biden has to share all the cabinet secretaries positions, as well as key appointments ahead of even winning the election; and give every wing of the party whose candidate was not chosen as the vice presidential running mate, the portfolio they want in order to pacify them. This is exactly what counting your chics before they are hatched looks like; but it is the Democratic Party and they are very unruly and insistent. Luckily for them, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's wing of nut jobs of the party has been neutralized by the outcome of the just concluded, albeit technically, presidential primaries. Their backed Bernie Sanders was shafted once again and forced to surrender to the party's establishment candidate, thus completely neutering the Squad led by AOC. The fact that Bernie Sanders did not consult with her before throwing in the towel and Joe Biden has not reached out to her yet, shows that the Democratic Party wanted to put her in her place, a little tiny box that is both soundproof and airtight. 

So who shall it be? Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Amy Kloubachar, Gretchen Whitmer, Stacy Abraham, Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama? ICHEOKU's odds is in favor of Michelle Obama as she, for the most part, checks many of the boxes necessarily required for a vice presidential candidate. She will bring a lot to the ticket and therefore a viable choice. First, she and Joe Biden have known each other and had a close working affinity for the eight years they were in the White House as First Lady and the Vice President. Michelle also has the star power that will roll in the money needed to mount a campaign, as she has many friends in Hollywood and other high places that will readily bring out their checkbooks. 

Michelle Obama is black and checks the race box as well. She is also still very much liked among black Americans, the largest voting bloc of the Democratic Party and she will rock out the black votes. That she is married to former President Barack Obama is an added blessing and that will persuade the former president to fully put his skin in the game to enable him get back to the White House. But such did not work out well for the Clintons when in 2016 Hillary Clinton tried using her star power and the fact of her spousal relationship to former President Bill Clinton to get to the White House bombed big time. 

Although Hillary Clinton checks nearly all the boxes as Michelle Obama, star power, fund raising and married to a former president, but Americans are tired of the Clintons and would rather some other person is in the White House who is not named a Clinton. Also, her time is up and the Resist Movement will protest her selection by Joe Biden, so she will not get the nod. Stacy Abraham on the other hand, is too feisty for comfort and Jill Biden will not tolerate her because she will be too ruinous and uncontrollable. With what happened in the last Georgia's governorship election and her continuing insistence that she won the governorship election but that it was stolen from her by white people, white Americans will not be well disposed to her choice, so she is not favored. 

Michigan State governor Gretchen Whitmer is an unknown quantity in American politics, although the coronavirus have thrust her name and face into national discourse. She will not bring anything tangible to the ticket, so will not be on Joe Biden's top shortlist. Amy Kloubachar on her part, is a woman many people will tolerate as a Vice President. She is reserved, assured, courteous and seems to have a very good head on her shoulders. So it is possible she is on the top tier of possible candidates being considered. Kamala Harris, aside of being black, has nothing substantial to bring to the ticket. She does not have the star power to pool in the bucks and she is not particularly liked in the black American African community. 

So, Kamala Harris will not feature in the top tier candidates being considered for the position. She also sparred publicly with Joe Biden during the debate, insinuating that Joe Biden is a racist who was against school busing. If everybody forgets and forgives her, Jill Biden will definitely not; and she will not allow Kamala's selection as her husband's running mate, case closed. 

Elizabeth Warren would have been a perfect fit for the slot, being a good campaigner and a member of the progressive wing of the party, but her not endorsing Bernie Sanders ruined her credentials as a progressive. Bernie Sanders has not forgiven her and will not sign off on her choice, so it will not happen. That leaves Michelle Obama as choice number one, followed by Amy Kloubachar and still possibly Hillary Clinton rounding off  the top tier candidates on Joe Biden's short list for vice presidential candidate. Perhaps too, there could be a yet to be seen woman who the Joe Biden's team is seriously considering and who they will spring up on the country very soon. 

ICHEOKU is not a diviner to know the inner workings of the campaign on who he will choose. But no matter who Joe Biden choses, it will be a tough and difficult campaign for Joe Biden to pull off. He is no longer in his elements and no matter how good a vice presidential candidate may be, without the effective leadership of the presidential candidate, their campaign will amount to naught. ICHEOKU wishes Joe Biden well in his choice of a vice presidential candidate and hopefully he will name her very soon to kickstart her vetting by the FBI, as well as getting her familiarized with American people. But regardless of who he choses, defeating President Donald John Trump will require more than what Joe Biden can offer. In short, it will be difficult and it will not happen.
