LIFE IS CRUEL, DEPORTATION IS UGLY?

Some of the deportees speaking with reporters at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos...yesterday. PHOTO: ISAAC JIMOH AYODELE.

Icheoku says you are looking above pictured, part of some one hundred Nigerians recently deported from Norway, as they are trying to figure out what indeed happened to them at Muritala Mohamed airport in Lagos. Icheoku says with experiences like this, which now occur in Lagos nearly on a daily basis, one begins to wonder if these checking out is indeed worth it after all? Look at the guy in red pants left bottom, carrying all he was able to acquire in Norway in his see through garbage bag, and you wonder whether his plane ticket and the cost of obtaining Visa out of Nigeria was even realized?

Anyway it is life and life is somewhat cruel and shows no mercy. Like with every deportation, they get you and you are gone; and it does not matter what you own or have, including money in the bank; admitted with plastic cards, you can access your money from anywhere in the world including the Sambisa Evil Forest, provided you first check with Boko Haram to ascertain their charges and fees? Icheoku says as is usually with such uprooting, it will take time to decompress, but these people will survive. What an unhappy Christmas, the Norwegians have brought to these Nigerians by forcefully returning them from a land whence they escaped. Life is indeed cruel.
