The man who was once described as the 'Nelson Mandela of Asia', Nobel Peace Prize winner and former president of South Korea, Kim Dae-jung is dead. He died at Severance hospital, Seoul-South Korea, aged 83, of heart attack as he was being treated of pneumonia! Elected president in December 1997 on his fourth attempt, and the first peaceful transfer of power ever in South Korea from a ruling party to an opposition party since the founding of the country in 1948; Kim remained president of South Korea until he voluntarily stepped down from power in 2003. Icheoku says, President Kim Dae-jung will chiefly be remembered for his "Sunshine" policy efforts, aimed at improving ties with its neighbor, North Korea. Icheoku extends our sympathy to the people of South Korea on the loss of their former president; and to his family, on the loss of their scion. May his gentle fighting soul now rest in peace! Adieu Mr. Sunshine!
