MEMORIAL DAY, WE THANK OUR FALLEN MEN AND WOMEN!
On this occasion of Memorial Day May 25, 2009, Icheoku says a big thank you to the men and women of the United State armed forces who have sacrificed their lives so that we could have a place to call home, the United States of America! Also their efforts in bringing freedom for so many peoples around the world is equally acknowledged. Icheoku says, what a selfless heroic bunch these brave men and women were and for this we are eternally grateful. We salute their courage!
Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, is a national holiday observed usually on the last Monday of the month of May; and commemorates our military men and women who have died while serving their fatherland. It was established primarily to honor the Union soldiers of the American civil war, but was later expanded after World War 1 to include all American soldiers, casualties of any war or military action whatsoever. This holiday is usually observed with laying of wreaths by the president on the unknown soldier memorial at National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia; and many people mark the holiday by visiting cemeteries and grave-sites of their loved military family member. It is also used for barbecues, pic-nics, sporting and other family gathering events throughout the United States of America. However you chose to mark this important day, just remember that so many people died for you to enjoy whatever it is you decided to do today; and for the freedom which you enjoy. Icheoku asks, will remembering them in your prayers be too much of a thing to ask for? We do not think so and urge you not to lose sight of the very essence of a Memorial Day! Once again, our hearts go out to the finest and the bravest!
