GEORGIA'S NEW ELECTION LAW IS NOT DISCRIMINATORY: WHY ALL THE FUSS?

ICHEOKU says black people are not the only people in Georgia nor does the new Georgia's election law specifically target them to deprive them of their voting rights. So, it is very disheartening to see black people  always held out as invalids who always need a hand up and who lack the capacity to be compliant to orders, rules and regulations. It is even more appalling that some black people participate in this propagation of blacks inferiority status which is often attributed to black people. 

These race baiters often times urge the lowering of standards for black people as if they are special needs people. They also make excuses on why certain rules should not be enforced as written because, according to them, it will be difficult for black people to comply with. This encourages mediocrity and the low expectations of and in black people, which is often interpreted as black people not being tough enough and/or that their neurons fire differently from the rest of American people of other races. 

A case in point is the new election reform law passed by the State of Georgia; a law which has a general application across the broad spectrum of everyone that lives in Georgia including whites, blacks, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, Indians, Asians and native Americans. But instead of seeing the law for what it is, an effort to fix what is broken and which makes election results always contentious, race baiters of America are saying that it is geared at depriving black people of their voting rights. They singled out black people as the only ones being specifically targeted by the new election law; saying that it will make it difficult for black people to vote in future elections. But there is no evidence to back this up as the law applies equally to every Georgian who wants to vote in an election. 

So, if other races can vote in elections under the new law, why then will black people not be able to similarly also vote, since they are not prohibited under the new law from voting in elections. The new law only says that voters must present an identification card before they vote; that  voters waiting in line to vote must not be provided with food and drinks by third parties and also shortened the waiting period for runoff elections from nine weeks to four weeks just for efficiency. If other Georgians of other races can present their identification cards at elections, why can't black people also do the same? 

If Georgians of other races can tough it out, not receiving food and drinks, while queued up on voting lines, why can't black people do the same? At worse they can bring along their own foods and drinks since the law does not preclude anybody from bringing their own provisions if they want. The new law also requires every runoff elections to be conducted within four weeks irrespective of whose runoff election it is. So, if Georgians of other races will comply to the new four weeks time frame for runoff elections, why can't black people? 

But no, their narrative is that State of Georgia has reinstated Jim Crow's law with the new election law just to once again prevent black people from voting. One wonders where the poll tax and/or additional burden in the new law is which was specifically imposed on black people to make it difficult for them to vote because they cannot pay it or discharge the burden. If indeed black people believe that they are the new majority voting bloc in Georgia and are convinced that their numerical strength makes all the difference in Georgia elections, why don't they just organize themselves to get identification card for every black person in Georgia who doesn't have one. And yes, they can organize voter registration and get out the votes drives for black people but finds it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get identification cards for these registered black voters who do not have identification cards. 

Something is not right and definitely fishy with this scheme and needs to change. The real motive behind the agitation against Georgia's latest act rectifying its flawed elections has nothing to do with it being discriminatory. It has everything to do with keeping the statues-quo in place that enables election malpractice, otherwise why would anybody have an issue with conducting fair elections and producing credible elections results. There is nothing discriminatory against black people in the peach State's new election laws as black people are not specifically targeted in any way. 

So, enough of the cheap shots and laughable pity party by black people. It is about time black people stopped accepting the demeaning of them as inferior people who cannot be  competitive in America. If other races in America can do it, so should black people; and if other races in Georgia can comply to the new Georgia's election law, black people should not find any excuse or reason not to similarly comply to it. Self defeatism as a strategy should be discontinued and abandoned by black people as it is cheapening and also deprives black people of their dignity as equals in America. It is time black people truly see themselves as Americans and adapt as bona fide Americans with no handicaps that make them special needs people.
