HAPPY JUNETEENTH AMERICA.

ICHEOKU says hopefully the nation can now begin to heal from the upheavals of the last several weeks since George Floyd was murdered. The 155th anniversary of the last black slaves becoming aware of their freedom is a good time to draw the curtain down on all the protests which erupted since his murder. May the craziness of the past few weeks now stop in honor of the memories which Juneteenth represent.

ICHEOKU says was going to ask why it is ok to keep Juneteenth flag but it is not ok to keep the Confederate flag which signifies the reason for Juneteenth. Without black people being held as slaves, there would have been no need for emancipation or later notifying slaves in Galveston Texas that they are have become free. Symbolism is everything and forms an important aspect of humanity and for its preservation, all these conflicting interests insignias should have been kept because without one, there won't be the other.

If you are flying flag of emancipation, it necessary follows or should follow that the flag of confederacy that kept the slaves should also equally fly to drive home the message of what triumphed over the other. Light over darkness. Christians keep the cross not because Jesus is still on the cross, but as a daily reminder to them of what Jesus went through in order to purchase them forgiveness of sin. If we have destroyed all the crosses, how would anyone be reminded the agony of what he went through in Gethsemane. Historical records are kept as a memory bank of what once was, in an effort to provide a guide going forward and in order to avoid the pitfalls of the past.

All those statues being demolished is plain whitewashing of historical facts, without which, the people and generations to come will be ignorant of what once was, then learn to appreciate how far the nation has come, as they continue traveling on the journey to improve what is, towards their common aspiration of what should be. But like William Shakespeare admonished humanity in Julius Caesar, mob mindset can be a dangerous thing and America is witnessing its claws. If people demolish statues of slave merchants, how then would they explain how they got to America in the first place?

Anyway, may all the protests now end and let America begin to work towards a more perfect union, with greater emphasis placed on jobs and security for black people as well and not all the superficial symbolisms of destroying centuries-old statues which will not in any way improve anybody's life. Enough of the destruction. Happy Juneteenth folks.
