In a yet another victory for President Barack Obama, his Supreme Court nominee Justice Sonia Sotomayor was sworn in today, August 8, 2009 as an associate judge of that highest court of the land. Icheoku says, what a moment of triumph come through for this immigrant daughter of Puerto Rican parents? Her mother Celia Sotomayor is seen in the picture above, holding the bible for her daughter's swearing in, with her brother Juan Luis Sotomayor watching, while Chief Justice John Roberts administers the oath of office. Icheoku says, congratulation Sonia as you now begins judging at the highest judicial pedestal of the land, God's guidance! Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, 55, you will recall, is the first judge of Hispanic background and only the third woman in the court's 220-year history. Icheoku says, what a White-boys club it was indeed until these persistent attacks at the marble ceiling began paying off dividends as continued in Justice Sotomayor? Justice Sonia Sotomayor has been a federal judge for 17 years before her nomination to the Supreme court last May to take the place of retiring Justice David Souter. She was subsequently confirmed for the position by the Senate last Thursday, August 6, 2009 by a 68-31 votes. Icheoku says, lets hope that Justice Sonia Sotomayor, as pledged, will "do equal right to the poor and to the rich."
