The eighty
(85) years old, longest serving Republican in the Senate, who came into politics long before Alaska became part of the Union as a state, has been ousted; thanks to a working democracy! Hurrah to democratic ideals where the wishes of the people are respected!
Senator Ted Stevens, the convicted felon, was defeated by
Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by
146,286, or 47.56 percent, to Stevens'
143,912, or 46.76 percent. This is a double-whammy for Ted who in addition to his federal conviction for lying under oath, has now lost the only thing he has known for most of his life - being a US Senator from Alaska! It will never be the same for Alaskan wild politics without the colossus of Alaska,
Uncle Ted Stevens! So long Ted!
Ted Stevens turned 85 last Sunday, November 16
th, 2008 and baring any success with his conviction appeal, will be spending the rest of his golden years in
Uncle Sam's big house!
