GUN VIOLENCE IN AMERICA: FOR WHO THE BELL TOLLS NEXT.

Just five people shy of Sandy Hook elementary school mass shooting incident that claimed 26 lives, the Uvalde Texas Robb elementary school mass shooting at 21 victims, now ranks among the highest grossing gun carnage in America. It is sad that such frequent blood spilling has tragically become part of our culture as a society. May the souls of the killed now rest.

25th AMENDMENT: ITS NOW ALL CRICKET.

Madam Speaker Nancy Pelosi once questioned former President Donald John Trump's fitness to remain in office due to what she claimed was his declining mental capacity. Does anyone know what Madam Speaker presently thinks about the incontrovertible case which America is now saddled with? Just curious!

THE HIT LIST - our incredible but true story series: Serie 1!

These are true stories! They did happen! Please welcome to the debut of our new Sunday page titled "The Hit List". It is a purveyor of the past week's synopsis of weird, strange, incredible but true stories and some eye-catching Kodak-moments as compiled by our team of bloggers. Happy trails!
1.
Open Marriage: is it imaginable the thought of your spouse having intimacy with another person to your knowledge? American Will Smith just admitted to that and further revealed that it has been the little secret behind his over ten years marriage with Jada Smith. How does that sound to you? Jaded, may be! Isn't this strange? According to an interview he gave to a British Magazine, REVEAL, Will Smith said " our perspective is, you don't avoid what is natural, and you're going to be attracted to people. And if it came down to it, then one would say to the other: 'Look, I need to have sex with somebody. Now, I'm not going to if you don't approve of it.' In our marriage vows, we didn't say 'forsaking all others.' "

2. Black Widows: Two women in Los Angeles, California, United States of America were convicted of first degree murder and conspiracy to murder for financial gains of two men, Paul Vados 73 and Kenneth McDavid 50. They were sentenced two life terms each without the possibility of parole. According to the prosecution, the two convicts Helen Golay 73 and Olga Rutterschmidt 75 befriended two homeless indigents, took out life insurance policies on each of them and then killed them in a staged accident of what initially appeared to be a hit and run auto accidents; and collected $2.8 million dollars proceeds of the life insurance on the two men before they were busted. Delivering his judgment, Superior Court Judge David Wesley said " the two men you killed needed only food and water and shelter. They needed a helping hand. They thought they were getting this from you. Instead these unfortunate men were sacrificed on your alter of greed." Could it get more weird than this? Such old hags (ladies) nearly pulled this heinous crimes off. What are they going to do with such a huge amount of money being so near their own graves at seventy plus years old? I don't think so; but please be the judge.
3. Lover fights dog to death: In Redwood City, California, United States of America, a man tired of sharing his girlfriend's bed with her little Chihuahua dog, kicked the dog so hard that she suffered five broken ribs, punctured lung and liver and huge blood loss. An emergency surgery at Sequoia Veterinary Hospital could not save little Chihuahua named Chiquita who died as a result of the blunt trauma. The lover was enraged that the jealous dog urinated and defecated on him while he was sleeping over at the girl friends' house. The suspect, Mr. Ariel Aspedilla of Manteca who posted a fifty thousand dollar bail, is awaiting trial for "dogicide" - the killing of little Chiquita! Incredible? Just a dog some critic will say! But not in the land of America wonder - dogs do have rights too!
4. Nigeria electoral wonder: In Nigeria, the current Senate President David Mark won in only two out of seven districts in his senatorial zone in Benue State yet he "won" the seat anyway and is today the President of the Senate as most recently confirmed by the Appellate Court! How could this be possible? Only in Nigeria where Olusegun Obasanjo single handedly installed Umaru YarAdua as President. It will also be recalled that it was the same David Mark who as chairman of NITEL bought a 33million pounds sterling golf course in Ireland; talk about a national assembly of corrupt officials and who said, Nigeria will be fixed? With these kind of shady charactered men at the helm of affairs, the situation may be near hopelessness. As if that was not shocking enough, a member of the House of Representatives Nuhu Aliyu alleged that so many of their members are criminal master minds of the 419 notoriety; today after series of threats and arm-twisting, the crusader has been intimidated into grave silence and these are still "honorable" men? Icheoku does not think so but would rather they are properly designated for whom they are - "dishonorable men"! How can an allegation of such a disparaging magnitude be made against a whole Nigerian House of Representatives alleging criminality and all the members did was to sweep it under the carpet. If this is not a cover-up, then nothing else so qualifies. Also Senator Jubril Aminu still chairs the Senate Foreign Affairs committee and you ask why the Siemens $12million dollars bribery scandal which implicated him has fallen off the radar and then you will begin to understand Nigeria. So when Nigerians are treated as pariahs all over the world, don't feign ignorance or surprise surprise as to the root-cause. A country which leadership is constituted of criminal minds by extension is populated by criminal minds also otherwise why the statusquo? Only in Nigeria! Shocked?
5. How large do you think a crocodile can grow? Take a look at this picture and say your Holy Molly! This alligator was found between Centre and Leesburg , Alabama, United States of America near a dwelling house! Game wardens were forced to shoot the alligator - guess he wouldn't cooperate? Neighbors had been telling the occupants that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the waterway that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as exaggerations. However they later realized the stories were, if anything, understated. Alabama Parks and Wildlife game wardens had to shoot the beast.
Joe Goff, 6'5' tall, a game warden, walks past the 28-foot, 1-inch alligator he shot and killed in their back yard.
This is the end of our this week's mind-numbing stories and until next Sunday when we shall come your way again, stay tuned. Hope this debut was worth the hype! In any event however we shall continue to improve with subsequent publications. See you on the 27th July, 2008. So long!

  1. A typical Nigerian 419er: Nuhu Aliyu’s shameful acts

    By Adeola Aderounmu.

Those who are hoping to hear the names of the fraudsters in the National Assembly or in the House of Reps have been fooled. In Nigerian politics, all the politicians are fraudsters. This is why I was confused when one Nuhu Aliyu threatened that he would name some 419ers in the Nigerian lawmaking assemblies.

On what moral ground would Nuhu have been making such a disclosure when all that we know about Nigerian politics is dirtiness and insanity? The governance itself headed by Umaru remains illegitimate and questionable. Was it not 419 to swear in a president without an election? What votes were counted that resulted in the emergence of all the lawmakers from all the 36 states of the Federation?

What a shame indeed! Nuhu is now the one apologizing to his brothers and sisters-in-crime for his act of bravado. He wrote a letter in which he referred to himself and all the fraudsters alike as members of the same family. This is the truth anyway, I can take that. Members of the same family and in fact birds of the same feather.

Nuhu’s lawyers have now told him that he cannot accuse anyone of being a 419er unless the court of law says so. What was he thinking before he dropped the bombshell in the House last week? Did reasoning depart from him at that time? Of course not!

What has happened is that some behind the scenes manipulations have taken place. I can only imagine that there are other people who know about his own dirty secrets and involvements in the destruction of Nigeria. Those people are also ready to reveal his shady dealings in the police to the glare of the public.

In addition, one cannot rule out the possibility of the threat to his life by some of the 419ers and their accomplices. One can assume that this threat may have been extended to his friends and family. With a den of killers like the PDP, you don’t want to mess around in Nigeria’s arena of politics.

With a very useless letter addressed to the persons like Umaru and David Mark, the shamefulness of the act becomes pathetic. But the mistake made here is that this letter is an attempt to end the controversy and sweep the case under the carpet. These men are all jokers. How could they have forgotten soon that the Nigerian media will not allow them to rest on this one?

The people may be voiceless and resilient but sometimes they have been propelled by the media and certain voices of reasoning to leave clear indicators as to the limit of acceptance of mad acts. Though we are still battling with the illegal regime of Umaru, Patricia Etteh’s saga remains a victory for the masses and the media. We are aware that our fight against corruption have not yielded expected positive outcomes, but our knowledge and understanding of the unfolding revelations in recent months have helped to enlightened us on the nature of the real evil. The Supreme Court decisions, popular and unpopular, are mild approaches to the nature of the changes that may come.

In any case, Nuhu’s outburst and shameful withdrawal are clear examples of what the politicians take us for. The people are fools, just tell them it was a slip of tongue and let’s move on with business as usual, abi na their papa or mama vote for you? No be we arrange you to come this house? We no send you here to come put sandsand for other people garri. Chop your own make you comot. Infact, clean your mouth on your way out! Hun! Na so we dey do things here. Make you no come play super ex-cop for here at all. Wey your name sake Ribadu today?

Tomorrow, somebody will come and tell us that Nuhu Aliyu should not have made such a reckless statement in the House. They will tell us that there are due processes and the rule of law. What they will not tell us is that that is the last we shall hear of the controversy or claims. There are so many National cases and scandals that are pending or forgotten. Why? Because we always move on with our lives! Because we have extremely short memories! Because as a people we are not sincere! Because majority of Nigerians who are critics and writers are waiting for opportunities to scrape from the corridors of power from the level of the local government to Abuja.

Nigeria remains in a serious dilemma. Other nations are making progress and building on what they have. We have refused to make progress and we continue to destroy every fragment of our society and country. If Nuhu cannot reveal the 419ers in the House, shame on him. For real, shame on the useless National House of Assembly! Shame on the House of Representatives! Shame on Umaru’s clumsy approaches! One thing cannot be overrule and that is the fact that all these people were not elected. They were selected in the notoriously evil wuruwuru dictatorial arrangements. They have not disappointed me by their actions. Afterall, it is business as usual. Carry go!

  2. EFCC Reopens Probe Into Siemens 10m Euros Bribe
*Set To Prosecute Those Involved In Scandal

By Sam Akpe, Deputy Editor, Abuja

Ranking Nigerians mentioned in the Siemens 10 million Euro bribe scandal which rocked the nation, last year, will soon face interrogation and possible prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Sunday Independent confirmed on Friday that the anti-graft commission has re-opened investigations into the issue and would soon invite all those involved to answer questions.

Last December, the EFCC, under its pioneer chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, took over the case from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), but nothing was heard of the matter afterwards.

There were speculations later that President Umaru Yar'Adua was bent on protecting some powerful people named in the scandal and had directed that the case be transferred to those who would do what he wants.

Various top ranking Nigerians, including former ministers of communications and notable politicians were alleged to have demanded and collected huge sums from the company before facilitating award of contracts.

The Wall Street Journal was the first to unravel the bribe scandal.

All the payments were allegedly made in euros. Most of those mentioned in the scam were rankled by newspaper reports and had proceeded to deny involvement.

Until now, they must have thought the matter had been swept under the carpet.

The President had on Tuesday, December 27, 2007, through his former chief of staff, Mohammed Abdullahi, demanded that the case file hitherto controlled by the ICPC be handed over to the then chairman of EFCC.

Thereafter, EFCC was said to have only questioned Cornelius Adebayo, a former Communications Minister and ex-governor who was among those mentioned in the scandal.

Although details of Adebayo's statement were not made available to Sunday Independent, sources said "the case was ordered closed by the former EFCC boss after that interview while others also mentioned were left unattended to."

Among those alleged to have been bribed but who have denied the allegations are Senator Jubril Aminu; Tajudeen Olanrewaju, David Oyegun, a former permanent secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Ahmed Datti, formerly of Nigeria Telecommunications Limited (NITEL).

But sources said on Friday that the new leadership of the EFCC is ready to execute the investigation to conclusion and that those found to have been involved would be prosecuted immediately.

EFCC head of media and publicity, EFCC, Femi Babafemi, confirmed that the case has been re-opened and that since the contract dates back a long time, there were a lot of documents to examine.

Babafemi noted that the culture of documentation in Nigeria is relatively poor and for that reason, some of the documents on the case were not readily available.

He said, "some of the documents have actually disappeared" since the investigation commenced last year and was later suspended.

The EFCC spokesman said because the scandal and the contracts involved had international links operatives of the EFCC would travel to Germany to also look at files at that end.

Gratification by Siemens AG was said to have been given between 2002 and 2003 when most of those mentioned left offices either as ministers or bureaucrats.

Siemens was last year quoted as admitting in a court in Germany that it actually bribed Nigerian officials in spite of great efforts at denial by those mentioned in the scam.

Thereafter, the Federal Government, at a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, revoked a huge contract hitherto awarded to Siemens.

Government also barred the company from getting any fresh contracts in Nigeria until the bribe scandal is resolved.

Siemens International had in November 2007 made effort to meet with Yar'Adua to explain its situation to him and seek forgiveness to continue business in Nigeria. The firm had written a letter to the president on November 21, 2007 through one Rudi Lamprecht, a member of the Siemens Management Board.

Siemens which has been operating in Nigeria since the 1950s, had its last contract before 1999- the 250,000 fixed lines Lagos job awarded by NITEL before it was privatised.
